In 2018, the banks of the Woonasquatucket River will be home to an new outdoor park with traditional and modern features! The Trust for Public Land and partners, including the Outdoor Happiness Movement, have joined together to open the Woonasquatucket River Adventure Park. This park is designed to attract local families and youth outside by offering a hiking and biking trail, a pavilion, a parkour course and two bicycle pump tracks. Even on a beautifully sunny day it can be a challenge to pick ourselves up and get outside. That’s why park designers linked the walking path to the existing 5 mile Woonasquatucket River Greenway. The connection will give 6,000 residents who live within a 10 minute walk of the greenway easy entry.
Plus, while visitors are practicing their mountain biking skills and sharing a picnic under shade trees, the climate-smart park will be hard at work! To prevent stormwater from reaching the river, the park plans to install structural surfaces to help infiltration. To prevent flooding, plans include restoring the shoreline. Now, that is smart!
The Woonasquatucket River Adventure Park is sure to be a big hit! If you live in the Providence, Rhode Island area, please be on the look out for this new, contemporary park in 2018.Take the OH! Pledge
